Cape Cod Hunger Network announces “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves” Food Donation day hosted at The Family Pantry   Please join the Cape Cod Hunger Network and The Family Pantry for “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves” by bringing your healthy food or monetary donation to the Family Pantry on Sunday May 20th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The Family Pantry is located at 133 Queen Anne Road in Harwich.   “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves”   Many commonly donated foods are high in salt, sugar or calories, making them poor choices for people with high blood pressure, diabetes and other diet-related health problems. With more people turning to food banks and for longer periods of time, agencies need donations but they'd like to see people give the kind of healthy and nutritious items they'd serve to their own families.   Healthy Food Ideas include: low-sugar cereal such as Cheerios or Chex; peanut butter; cans or plastic containers of juice (make sure it's 100 percent juice); canned vegetables, any variety, marked lite or low-sodium; bags of pinto or black beans; rice; canned tuna fish; powdered milk fortified with vitamin D. The Cape Cod Hunger Network is a growing coalition of organizations -- including Cape food pantries and state and local agencies that help coordinate food security programs and work together to help food find its way to hungry Cape residents.  The Network also includes shared freezer storage and is an outlet through which advocacy efforts are channeled.   The Family Pantry of Cape Cod's mission is to provide food and clothing to those in need without regard to age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, handicap and/or veteran status. All work is performed by a volunteer corps of over 300 volunteers and three staff members. All money received from grants and donations is used to cost effectively purchase nutritious food, unless the grantor or donor specifies otherwise.   Location: Family Pantry, 133 Queen Anne Road, Harwich, MA 02645 Date: Sunday May 20th Time: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
