The Family Pantry of Cape Cod is grateful to The Home Depot for supplying plants, garden tools and supplies as well as volunteer gardeners to the Pantry's Garden.  Assisting with the planting of the donated plants, seeding, painting, weeding, etc. were members of Harwich High School Honor Society.  This was a very productive day for the "Garden".  Thanks to Manager Jason Worrell and his team for the contributions from The Home Depot.  Thanks also to Youth Director John O'Connor and Advisor David Breski for the great work done by Juniors and Seniors from the Harwich High School Honor Society.  The Family Pantry of Cape Cod is grateful to the Massachusetts Trial Court Community Service Program who have provided tremendous support in helping to create a vegetable garden to provide more fresh produce to our clients. Pictured are Mary Anderson - Executive Director of The Family Pantry of Cape Cod, Joe Finn and Tim Callahan from the Massachusetts Trial Court Community Service office, and Don Milbier - project manger and committee member of the Garden. ________________________________________________________________ Probationers, ordered to do community service in lieu of court costs, performed more than 400,000 hours over the past year. Offenders across the state work at food pantries where they have helped distribute healthy food to struggling families. Probationers played a pivotal role in the clean-up of the aftermath of a devastating tornado that hit western Massachusetts last June. Offenders have assisted in the construction, remodeling, and painting of non-profit organizations such as churches and synagogues, as well as senior citizen centers. The Massachusetts Trial Court Community Service Program was first established in 1998 and is a division of the Office of Community Corrections which is comprised of 21 Community Corrections Centers throughout the Commonwealth where offenders can earn their GED’s, participate in job training, and receive drug and alcohol counseling.

Cape Cod Hunger Network announces “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves” Food Donation day hosted at The Family Pantry   Please join the Cape Cod Hunger Network and The Family Pantry for “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves” by bringing your healthy food or monetary donation to the Family Pantry on Sunday May 20th from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. The Family Pantry is located at 133 Queen Anne Road in Harwich.   “Healthy Food on Pantry Shelves”   Many commonly donated foods are high in salt, sugar or calories, making them poor choices for people with high blood pressure, diabetes and other diet-related health problems. With more people turning to food banks and for longer periods of time, agencies need donations but they'd like to see people give the kind of healthy and nutritious items they'd serve to their own families.   Healthy Food Ideas include: low-sugar cereal such as Cheerios or Chex; peanut butter; cans or plastic containers of juice (make sure it's 100 percent juice); canned vegetables, any variety, marked lite or low-sodium; bags of pinto or black beans; rice; canned tuna fish; powdered milk fortified with vitamin D. The Cape Cod Hunger Network is a growing coalition of organizations -- including Cape food pantries and state and local agencies that help coordinate food security programs and work together to help food find its way to hungry Cape residents.  The Network also includes shared freezer storage and is an outlet through which advocacy efforts are channeled.   The Family Pantry of Cape Cod's mission is to provide food and clothing to those in need without regard to age, race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, handicap and/or veteran status. All work is performed by a volunteer corps of over 300 volunteers and three staff members. All money received from grants and donations is used to cost effectively purchase nutritious food, unless the grantor or donor specifies otherwise.   Location: Family Pantry, 133 Queen Anne Road, Harwich, MA 02645 Date: Sunday May 20th Time: 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
